Tackling-Health Enhancing The Well-Being
A faith centre working to improve the health and well-being of the community is not a new concept, from the earliest days of Islam we find the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ Mosque in Medina was a community meeting place, a centre for learning, a place for consultation and advice as well as being a place of prayer.
We know the environment helps shape our health; the places we live, work and socialise. Most Muslims in the UK live in areas of higher deprivation, with poorer economic opportunities and a greater burden of ill health, disability and premature death.
Many health conditions disproportionately affect minority ethnic groups, such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, obesity, mental ill health, and dementia are preventable by addressing underlying risk factors such as obesity, physical inactivity, social isolation and smoking.
The increasing pressure on the health and social system in the UK means those without guidance can easily slip through the cracks and not receive what they require or are entitled to. There is therefore a need to support our members in navigating through these systems and do our best to exact positive change.
Alhamdullilah, Allah (swt) has blessed our community with many skilled individuals who also have the desire to give back to the community. As a result, RIC can sustain itself as the skill mix means that members of the community can always be referred to as those best able to tend to their specific needs. We also have the youth’s complete support, which means new energy and enthusiasm will be in constant supply. We hope this will also inspire the youth to aspire to have careers such as those in healthcare which have the potential for so much barakah.
